Even before Facebook allowed you to “like” someone’s post, comment, wit, photo, snarkiness, etc, I belonged to an online community that allowed you to rate other users’ comments as to whether they were funny or not. The entire community ran on this “currency” of ratings. We happily “clicked” each other and it became almost like muscle memory. “Hey, I either like that comment or think it’s funny in some way!” CLICK
When Facebook came along, I was completely ready for “like”. It was already second-nature. Same concept, different name. CLICK
With Google+, I’ve got “+1”. Once again, second-nature to show quick appreciation for anything. CLICK
But when reading other blogs, or even email, I feel compelled to click other people’s comments…AND I CAN’T. It feels like I’m being restrained. I WANT TO CLEEEK IT! Screw meaningful comments of appreciation with depth and substance! Give me a button, dammit!
CLEEEEK!,
Me too!
At least I can click that I appreciate this page. Hehe!
May I ask what that comment rating community was and is it still around?
The community is still active but I hesitate to link to it because it’s fairly cutthroat and I refuse to be responsible for the corruption of any more innocent people.
Plus I’m banned from mentioning its name in Maryland, Indiana, Utah and Cincinnati.
Damn I’m curious now lol
*cleek*
I can enact something like this I think.
I too feel the need to show people when I “like” something they have posted. I think that’s one reason I like Stumbleupon, it has that option as well. But then I feel sad when I find something awesome and can’t fill a pee tube, or like, or anything! Everything in life should have that option.
Also, I didn’t find your blog until today! Guess what’s going in my bookmarks?
Yay! Hi babe! Welcome to the insanity!
