Grey Hair

I have long, dark, VERY THICK hair. I’m a weird mix of ancestry and heritage, so I can’t really point at any one culture and say “You are responsible!” but trust me when I say it’s very similar to freaking horse hair.

GURL, I know you di'int just criticize mah hair!

I have also started to develop quite a few grey hairs.

I found my first grey hair when I was in high school. It freaked me out, but at the time I was angsty and fighting with my mom a lot, so I wrote it off as “stress-induced”.

My sister found the second one when I was in my very early 20’s. We were standing in line for a concert and she plucked this incredibly long grey hair out of the back of my head and waved it around like a majorette flag.

Last year or so, I started noticing them on the top of my head. I tried to tell my girlfriends at work but they laughed and told me I was being ridiculous. I wasn’t even 30 yet!

Well, now I’m 30 and they are very easy to find. I have one in particular that lives in the front left of my hair that GLISTENS. Because I can’t just have grey hair. I get to have sparkly WHITE hairs.

Peek-a-boo mofo!!!

For a while I stressed about it. I plucked them out, refusing to believe they’d come back in stronger numbers. They did. I tried to dye my hair to cover them up. They laughed at the dye and stayed bright and sparkly. They blind people in the parking lot when I get out of the car.

I’ve finally decided to embrace it and think of it as highlights as long as I can. At least until they start getting so numerous that I develop the “salt & pepper” look. (Not to be confused with Salt’n’Pepa. That’s totally different.)

Maybe I’ll totally bleach the front and go “Rogue”. Hmm…

Totally Hot.

Rogue looks deeply constipated. Or in the throes of abject pain.

  3. I also have sparkly grey hairs. When I was younger, I was talking to my mom about how she dyes her hair, and I mentioned my aunt has grey hair and doesn’t dye hers, and my mom busted out with “Yeah, but she has SILVER hair, that’s different.” At the time I thought she was being insane and saying that silver hair is more beautiful but now I’m worried she meant that it can’t be dyed…

  4. I’m starting to get white hairs too I think. I’m 26. For the last couple of years I have found one long white hair each year. I plan on sporting the white hair once more than one come in at a time. My mom does the rogue thing and it looks great on her.

I’m 38, I have grey hairs almost everywhere but on my head, weird I know, and probably TMI. Anyway, I think if you wanted to rock the Rogue hairdo you could totally pull it off, especially if you wore the bodysuit!

Yeah, Rogue’s face is quite scary. Can you do the bleach without acquiring the scary face?

  7. I follow my dad’s line of thinking: As long as they stay atop my head, they can be any damn color they choose.

At 34almost35, I am about 75%-80% gray. When I dye my hair, I can actually HEAR the hairs laughing at me. What comes out as so-dark-brown-it’s-black on the ends is something closer to you-tried-to-hide-the-grays-but-mostly-failed brown on the top. It’s been 3 weeks or so since my last dyejob and they have all recovered sufficiently to be noticeable.

I am only glad that being 6′ tall, most people can’t see the of my head.
